Match Report

We travelled to Páirc Máiteoige on Friday evening with real intent, and a strong second-half performance secured a well-deserved victory over Mattock Rangers. The final score of 2-16 to 1-11 reflects a team that grew into the match after a competitive opening half, with our forwards eventually finding their rhythm to run out comfortable winners.

The early exchanges were evenly contested, with both sides trading scores in the opening quarter. Joseph Connor and Eoin O'Connor got us off the mark early, while Jack Murphy added his first point to keep us competitive. However, Mattock showed their quality with a two-pointer and took the game to us around the midfield. The momentum shifted a few times in those opening minutes, but neither side managed to establish real dominance. The turning point came when Mattock registered a goal late in the first half to move ahead, but we responded well in the closing stages, with Jack Murphy and Aidan McCann pointing to keep us in touching distance at the break. Sean Fearon also made his presence felt with a crucial point before half-time.

The second half was where we truly took control. Sean Holland burst through for a crucial goal early after the restart, and from that moment the tide was firmly in our favour. Our attack clicked into gear with a series of well-worked points from Micheál O'Shaugnessy and others, while Jack Murphy was outstanding, adding points and then demonstrating his class with two superb two-pointers that killed the contest. Eoin O'Connor contributed another two-pointer to extend our advantage. Sean Fearon crowned a fine personal display with a second goal late on, which put the seal on an impressive away victory. Mattock never stopped trying, but we had the answers when it mattered most.

This was a performance we can build on—solid defence, creative midfield play, and forwards who took their chances when it counted. Full credit to Mattock for a competitive encounter, but we're pleased to take the two points and the momentum heading forward.
