Friday 12 June 2026
Match Report: St Josephs 1-17 (20) St Patrick's GFC 1-08 (11)
Our lads made the trip to Cluskey Park on Saturday to face the league leaders, and while we came away empty-handed, there were plenty of positives to take from the encounter. St Josephs proved why they sit atop the table with a composed performance, but St Patrick's showed real character, particularly in the second half, and gave a good account of ourselves against one of the division's strongest sides.
It was always going to be a stern test on hostile ground, and St Josephs controlled much of the early exchanges. Their experience and attacking threat kept us under pressure, and they built a commanding position to reach the interval well ahead. However, our young squad didn't let their heads drop. There was real grit and determination shown as the game progressed, and we rallied in the second period to cut into their lead. The effort and commitment from our players was plain to see, and it's that kind of character that will stand us in good stead as the season develops.
St Josephs' greater experience and composure ultimately made the difference, but we can take encouragement from how we competed against the league leaders. Our young guns showed they belong at this level and that, with time and more games under their belt, we'll be a real handful for any side. The away trip to Cluskey Park was always going to be difficult, but the manner in which the lads applied themselves—especially after the break—suggests we're moving in the right direction. There's plenty to work on, but equally plenty to be proud of.
